Eostra, Ostara is the festival of the Germanic Eostre who is described as a Goddess of the light of the Rising Sun, of the Dawn and of Spring. A young female wearing a hare mask or with the head of a hare, she carries a silver disk on which can be seen an image of the moon. Eostre, who is also known as Oestre, gives her name to Oestrogen, the female hormone which stimulates ovulation and therefore is a Goddess of fertility. According to the Venerable Bede, she gave her name to the Spring festival of Easter
